Cosmos Organic is a part of the eco-certification. There is a specific requirement for organic content. Products that are washed off the skin quickly after application must contain a minimum of 10% organic ingredients and products that remain on the skin for a longer time must contain a minimum of 20% organic ingredients. The vegetable oils in the product must be of organic origin and the product must be based on natural and nature identical ingredients. There are requirements to the biodegradability of the raw materials and those from palms need to be certified as MB. Ecocert also checks the packaging and has requirements for these in relation to the basis material. You can always see the content of natural and organic ingredients on an eco-certified product.

COSMOS makes use of the principles in the Ecocert standard.

COSMOS (COSMetic Organic Standard) is a Europe-wide private standard that was developed by five charters members:

  • BDIH (Germany)
  • Cosmebio (France)
  • Ecocert Greenlife SAS (France)
  • ICEA (Italy)
  • Soil Association (Great Britain)

They were all combined under an AISBL (international non-profit organization based in Brussels) the purpose of which was to set down minimum common requirements, harmonize organic and natural cosmetic certification rules, and lobby institutions in the sector's interests.

COSMOS makes use of the principles in the Ecocert standard (January 2003 version):

  • Promote the use of ingredients from organic farming.
  • Use production and manufacturing processes that are environmentally sound and safe for human health.
  • Include and expand the concept of "green chemicals".
