Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official Ecolabel of the Nordic countries and was established in 1989 by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a voluntary eco labelling scheme that evaluates a product's impact on the environment throughout the whole life cycle. The label guarantees among other things that climate requirements are taken into account, and that CO2 emissions (and other harmful gasses) are limited - where it is most relevant.
Nordic Ecolabel is an assessment of the product based on a life cycle assessment, where both content, label, and packaging are included in the assessment. The Swan is an environmental certification and assesses the product's impact on the aquatic environment. The Swan has requirements for ingredients, degradability profile of the ingredients, weight and volume distribution of the packaging, and that it is ensured that the product which is Swan-labelled is at the same level in terms of performance as similar products on the market.
